Elon Musk believes money could become almost meaningless within the next decade.
His prediction?
AI and robots will eventually become so productive that they can provide nearly everything humans need.
Food.
Transport.
Manufacturing.
Services.
Even much of the work people currently do for a living.
Musk has said that by around 2036, βmoney wonβt matter.β
His argument is simple:
Money only matters because goods and services are limited.
If AI and robots create enormous abundance, the cost of producing things could fall so dramatically that money itself becomes far less important.
He has also predicted that work could eventually become optional rather than necessary for survival.
Of course, this is still a prediction.
There are huge unanswered questions about who owns the robots, who controls resources and whether things like land and energy could ever truly stop being scarce.
But Musk believes the world is heading toward something radically different.
A future where machines do most of the work.
And money may no longer decide who gets what.
