Kibicho, who prefers operating away from political mudslinging, is said to have invested heavily in his brother in law, Mr. Githae, positioning him as a behind the scenes consensus candidate. Over the past months, Githae has reportedly held several closed door strategy meetings at the well known Kagio Lodge and Sagana, signaling a carefully managed re-entry into county politics.
Njeru Githae previously served as Ndia MP, later rose to become Minister for Finance, and eventually served as an Ambassador until 2022.
In 2013, Githae made an unsuccessful attempt at the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat, losing to Joseph Ndathi. However, the 2027 race presents a very different political terrain.
He is expected to face a crowded and competitive field that includes:
Kamau Murango, the DCP candidate and current Kirinyaga Senator
Joseph Gitari, the current Kirinyaga Central MP, running on a UDA ticket
Wangui Ngirici, contesting on a PLP ticket
With heavyweight names, shifting party loyalties, and powerful political godfathers in play, Kirinyaga’s 2027 gubernatorial contest is shaping up to be one of the most fascinating races to watch…..
