After Spending 17 Painful Years At Kamiti Maximum Prison, Daniel Wanyeki Has Finally Found Hope For Justice For A Crime He Did Not Commit

He was arrested in 2007 and accused of defiling his own daughter. At that time, the child was only seven years old. He was later convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison, which was later increased to life imprisonment, despite serious doubts in the case.

Now aged 24, his daughter has bravely come out to tell the truth. She has admitted that she was forced to lie in court and accuse her father. She says the pressure came from people she trusted, including her uncle, her grandmother, and a female police officer, who coached her on what to say.

According to her, the false case was caused by a family land dispute. After the death of Wanyekiโ€™s father, family members fought over land worth more than KSh 50 million. When Wanyeki opposed the sale of part of the land, it is alleged that he was framed so he could be removed from the family picture.

When the case was heard at Thika Law Courts, Wanyekiโ€™s older daughter denied the accusations, but the younger one testified against him. Even though her story had many contradictions, the court still convicted him.

In 2020, as an adult, the daughter contacted people close to the case and confessed that her testimony was a lie forced on her as a child. She confirmed that her father was innocent and said she deeply regrets what happened.

Her confession has led to the cancellation of Wanyekiโ€™s conviction, and the case has been reopened for a new trial. After nearly two decades in prison, Daniel Wanyeki is finally close to freedom and justice, in a case that shows how family betrayal and abuse of power can destroy an innocent life.
