Police boss IG Douglas Kanja has rejected a proposed bill that seeks to introduce a retirement age and term limits for top police officers.
Kanja argues that competence and integrity, not age, should determine leadership in the service.
The bill, sponsored by Teso North MP Oku Kaunya, proposes capping the IG’s and deputies’ retirement age at 60 and limiting deputy terms to five years.
If passed, Kanja, who is 61, could be forced to retire.
However, IPOA Chair Ahmed Issack Hassan supports the bill, saying it aligns with Maraga Taskforce reforms and ensures gender balance in police leadership appointments.
