Major changes could happen in the 2026 Africa World Cup qualifiers:
▪️ Eritrea’s withdrawal has disrupted the balance, reducing Group E to just 5 teams instead of the usual 6.
▪️ To ensure fairness, CAF and FIFA are contemplating removing the points gained against the last-placed team in each group when calculating the best runners-up.
▪️ Under this proposed rule, teams like Gabon, Burkina Faso, DRC, and Madagascar could lose up to 6 points.
▪️ Meanwhile, teams such as Cameroon (potentially gaining 4 points) and Nigeria may improve their standings and increase their chances of reaching the World Cup playoffs.
An official decision on this matter is expected before October 14.
