A quiet night in Juja turned deadly after Rose Muthoni was fatally stabbed, with her nanny.

Tracy, recalling the husband’s strange behaviour hours before the attack Tracy said Muthoni’s husband had returned home unusually early, watched a violent film, and made disturbing remarks that later unsettled her.

Hours later, tension escalated when knives in the house went missing, and the husband was spotted holding one before throwing it down in silence.

A tragic night in Juja ended in horror after Rose Muthoni was brutally stabbed to death, allegedly by her husband.

The tragedy has shaken the family and community, but it is the chilling account of the family’s nanny, Tracy, that reveals the terrifying moments leading to Muthoni’s tragic death.

Tracy, who had worked in the household, said the day began like any other until Muthoni’s husband returned home unusually early.

“He came back around 10 in the morning, which was strange because he usually got back at night. He was on the phone for hours, and later in the day he asked me for the TV remote to watch a movie. The film was violent. At one point when a woman with an evil heart was killed in the movie, he said people like that deserve to die,” Tracy recalled in an interview with TV47.

The visibly traumatised nanny said nothing seemed unusual until later that night when Muthoni returned home.

The mother of one came in around midnight, still on her phone after a long day at work in Nairobi. She then asked

Tracy about the knives usually kept in the kitchen, but when they could not find them, Muthoni opted to use another one kept in the oven for cutting chicken.

“I went to check, but I couldn’t find it. I told her I had placed it where I always do. She then said, “Alright, let me take another one that we usually keep in the oven for cutting chicken. You go back to sleep.”

As I was about to pass, I saw her husband opening the door, still wearing the same clothes,” Tracy stated.

It was at that moment that tension escalated and Tracy recalled seeing Muthoni’s husband holding a knife, throwing it down, and remaining silent when questioned about it.

“He asked me, “What are you looking for at this hour of the night?” I told him, “Mum woke me up looking for a knife, but she’s taking another one.” Then I saw him throw a knife to the ground. His wife picked it up and asked him, “Why are you holding a knife and not saying anything? What were you doing with it?” I then heard her say, “Alright, let me call Mum so you can speak to her.” But he answered, “I don’t care. I don’t care”,” she recounted.

Tracy further revealed that she went to bed, but the situation in the house turned violent almost immediately.

She stated that she heard a piercing scream as Muthoni cried out for help, allegedly being brutalised by her husband.

The nanny explained that the husband thrust the knife with force, leaving Muthoni fighting for her life on the floor.

“Right after saying “I don’t care,” I heard screams. I was still lying in bed, not fully asleep, when I heard her cry, “Aunty, come help me, they are killing me.” I was shocked, because I had never seen them quarrel before. I rushed there and found the wife already on the floor, stabbed in the chest. He had stabbed her with great force,” she added.

In her dying moments, Muthoni pleaded for her child’s future even as Tracy tried to overpower the husband, who shrugged her off, almost stabbing her in the chest.

“It almost stabbed my chest. I heard his wife pleading, “You should have let me live for my child. Aunty, you tried to help me, but let me go. Please take care of my child.” As I watched her dying, I screamed and dragged myself towards the door to open it,” Tracy stated.

She explained that the husband proceeded to try and throw their baby from the balcony as he skipped over Muthoni’s body, now taking her final breaths.

Tracy said she still doesn’t get how she mustered the courage to confront the man and grab the child before running away while screaming.
