The U.S. military confirmed it has shot down an Iranian drone in the Arabian Sea after it approached the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, citing a potential threat to the ship and its crew.
According to U.S. officials, the drone displayed “unsafe and unprofessional behavior” and was intercepted by a U.S. fighter jet while operating in international waters. No damage or injuries were reported.
The incident comes amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran, with increased U.S. naval deployments and Iranian drone activity across key maritime routes in the Middle East.
While both sides have avoided direct escalation so far, the shootdown underscores how quickly surveillance encounters in contested waters can turn into military confrontation.
