UPDATE: A Court Has Ordered The State To Recover Part Of The Wealth Linked To Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu

A court has ordered the State to recover part of the wealth linked to former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, giving him limited relief from a much larger forfeiture request.

The court ruled that assets worth Ksh131 million should be surrendered to the government.

The ruling follows an earlier demand that Waititu and his wife, Susan Ndung’u, give up properties estimated at more than Ksh1.9 billion.

Authorities had claimed that the assets were obtained through fraudulent dealings during his time in public office.

Under the latest order, the couple must forfeit two parcels of land valued at about Ksh32 million.

They will also surrender a Caterpillar construction tractor worth Ksh11 million, along with two vehicles valued at Ksh600,000 each.

According to the EACC, the questionable assets were accumulated while Waititu served as Kabete MP between 2015 and 2017 and later as Kiambu Governor from 2017 to 2020.

The case remains a key example of ongoing efforts to recover public funds lost through corruption.
