POLOKWANE-MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Mme Violet Mathye, together with Head of Department Stephen Matjena, conducted an on-site inspection of an overloaded cross-border bus detained at the Polokwane weighbridge on Thursday, December 18.
The bus, travelling from Gauteng to Malawi, was stopped on the N1 bypass for breaching load limit regulations, carrying a total of 117 passengers.
MEC Mathye issued a stern warning to Malayisha operators and all cross-border bus operators, stating that any further violations of load-management rules or roadworthiness standards would result in maximum penalties, including hefty fines and possible suspension of operating licenses.
