City Cons Who Milked Job Seekers With Fake NPS Letters Nabbed

Detectives from Kamukunji Police Station have arrested a conman who took a Kenyan for a ride, pocketing Sh450,000 after claiming he could โ€œopen doorsโ€ for a relative in the just concluded National Police Service recruitment.

The suspect, Samuel Lemino Sunkuli, had promised to deliver an official docket number in Nairobiโ€™s CBD. However, before he disappeared into thin air, detectives laid a trap for him, arresting him with a forged docket number.

His arrest came hot on the heels of another sting in Ngara, where three more scammers were rounded up after police got wind of a racket selling fake NPS calling letters to desperate jobseekers.

At the scene, police found 10 youths who had been conned each paying between Sh600,000 and Sh700,000 for letters purportedly admitting them at NPS Main Campus, Kiganjo.

It was the search of a vehicle linked to the fraudsters, a Toyota Sienta (KDV 295D), that blew the lid off the operation. Inside, the detectives recovered Sh700,000 in cash and ten fake calling letters, confirming that the suspects had been minting money at the expense of hopeful applicants.

Tony Wanyota, Timon Kimeli, and Isaac Langโ€™at were immediately taken into custody.

All four suspects are cooling their heels in police cells as detectives tighten the noose ahead of their arraignment.

The DCI warns Kenyans against fraudsters who are selling fake recruitment slots. NPS recruitment is free, fair, and merit-based.
