President William Ruto has vowed to restore order in Angata Barikoi, Trans Mara, following deadly clashes at the Narok border, calling on residents in possession of firearms to surrender them to police.
Speaking at the Baringo Cultural Festival and the Kimalel Goat Auction on Monday, December 22, Ruto directed security agencies to act decisively, shortly after Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot requested the deployment of the Kenya Defence Forces to the area.
โThese people have to return the guns to the police. If they don’t, they will face it,โ the President declared. He added, โWe must stop criminals, terrorists, and all others infringing on the peace and security of other citizens. And we are not begging.โ
Referring to Baringo Countyโs past bandit attacks, which have since been brought under control, Ruto expressed hope that violence in Barikoi would cease, warning that tougher measures await those who ignore his orders.
Cheruiyot, in his appeal to the President, highlighted the severity of the recent skirmishes between border communities, which have left at least seven people dead. The governmentโs move signals a firm stance against ongoing insecurity in the region, emphasizing both law enforcement and military involvement to safeguard residents.
