These are the Minimum Qualifications + Salary of a Chief in Kenya

To be Assistant Chief II:

1. KCSE C- (Minus) or equivalent
2. 30+ years old
3. Resident of the sublocation
4. Good communication skills
5. Police clearance & basic computer skills

Salary : 26k to 47k

TO BE CHIEF II: ( above )

1. KCSE C (Plain) or higher
2. 35+ years old
3. Diploma in Public Admin, Management, Social Work, Education, or related fields
4. KCSE C (Plain) or higher.
5. Salary : 30k to 70k

However, in some regions such as Northern Kenya, West Pokot, Baringo etc there are no qualified individuals for these positions. In some cases, entire ( sub ) locations do not have a single person with a KCSE grade C, prompting the government to request waivers to fill the vacancies.

Their jobs are permanent and pensionable.
