“Samia Ana Suluhu” Confusion As Tanzanian Opposition Disqualified Ahead The General Election

Tanzania’s electoral commission has officially disqualified Luhaga Mpina, leader of the country’s second largest opposition party(ACT Wazalendo), for the second time.

The move overturns a decision made just few days earlier by court that had cleared his nomination.

This leaves the current President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, a clear run at next month’s election.

The vote will also exclude the main opposition party, CHADEMA, which was disqualified in April after refusing to sign the electoral code of conduct in protest against the lack of reforms. Its presidential candidate, Tundu Lissu, has been in jail since April on treason charges he denies.
