Interior CS nominee Kithure Kindiki now says that at least 164 police and civilian vehicles were destroyed during anti-government protests.
Kindiki noted that 54 of these were police vehicles, while 110 belonged to members of the public.
Speaking during his vetting in Parliament, Kindiki said the protests also saw at least 42 Kenyans lose their lives.
The CS nominee went on to state that in the chaos that resulted from demos, some 486 civilians and 385 police officers sustained injuries.
He added that the police made over 1,387 arrests as well.
He further noted that the reason he did not address the anti-government protests publicly while in office was because it was an operational issue.
He noted that the Police are independent and do not take directions from him on operational matters.
