Popular Mugithi musician Samidoh, who also serves as a police officer, is facing renewed pressure over his dual career after leading a crowd in chanting “Wantam”, a phrase widely associated with opposition to President William Ruto’s administration.

The incident has sparked debate over whether his actions violate the National Police Service’s code of conduct.

During a recent public event, Samidoh rallied the crowd with the chant “Semeni Wantam!”, a slogan originally coined by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to suggest that Ruto should serve only one term.

The phrase has since been adopted by anti-government voices, causing speculation about Samidoh’s political stance.

Following the viral video, reports emerged that government officials had dispatched officers to monitor Samidoh, raising concerns about potential disciplinary action. However, the musician has since clarified that he remains an active police officer and has not resigned from the National Police Service.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who hosted Samidoh and other artists at his official residence in Karen, has not commented on the controversy.

However, during the meeting, Samidoh appeared to shift his stance, shouting “Tutam”, implying support for Ruto’s re-election.
