Commissioner General’s Continuous Tour Of Chief’s Palaces -Central Province

Zambia Correctional Service Commissioner General Fredrick Chilukutu is impressed with the progress made so far in the construction of chiefs palaces in Mumbwa District.

Commissioner General Chilukutu who is on a country wide tour of chiefs palaces has described the works done so far in 3 Chiefdoms of Mumbwa District to be at 70 percent done.

He was speaking in Mumbwa after concluding his tour of three chief’s palaces in Mumbwa District yesterday.

During his tour, the Commissioner General also took time to pay courtesy calls on the chiefs and assured them of the Service’s commitment and the importance that government places on making their royal highnesses comfortable.

” We have come to acquaint ourselves with the progress made so far, how our men and women on the ground are fairing and also get your reactions so that we can be able to maintain the quality and enable us move to the next level”

During his courtesy call on Senior Chief Shakumbila, His Royal Highness commended the Correctional Service for the good quality of work being done at his palace. The Senior Chief expressed his gratitude to the government for granting Chief’s request to build them palaces.

“There are no much complaints here, just the delayment during the initial stages but we understand that at times that things become difficult as we are going towards the end of the year and that we can have some hickups here and there as we fully understand how government procedures can be.” His Royal Highness Shakumbila said.

Shakumbila, Mulendema and Kaindu palaces in Mumbwa District are part of the 12 sites in Central Province out of the total 81 palaces under construction across the country.

The Commissioner General further disclosed that most of the Palaces in Central Province have since been roofed and may be ready for commissioning by the end of December 2024 all things being equal.

He further went on to assure their Royal Highnesses that phase two of the funding has already been approved and other palaces which are still on lower levels will be touched as the service is equal to the task.

During the same tour the Commissioner General brought to their royal highnesses’s attention the challenges that may hamper the commissioning by October 2024 as initially indicated as he attributes this to unforeseen circumstances which led to the late commencement of the project hence delayed delivery which he said will be latest May 2025.

And During his visit to Chiefs Mulendema and Kaindu, both chiefs expressed gratitude for the gesture the government has done in their chiefdoms stating that it is for the first time this is happening to them.

The Commissioner General is on his tour accompanied by ZCS Director in charge of Irrigation Development DCP Dr. Emmanuel Sikazwe who is also Site Supervisor for Central Province and also Central Region Commanding Officer DCP Michael Sakala.

He has since returned to Lusaka and will tomorrow proceed to visit the remaining sites beginning with Chief Mungule’s palace in Chibombo District.
