Why Governors James Orengo and Anyang Nyong’o opposed to Raila working with Ruto
Orengo and Nyong’o know very well that with Raila not on the ballot in 2027, it will be hard to sell their candidature in Luo-Nyanza….It’s quite clear that Raila has hanged his boots politically as far as Kenyan local politics is concerned and his focus is more on AU issues.
This is very worrying to so many Luo-Nyanza politicians like Nyong’o, Orengo and Babu Owino that have always hanged on Raila’s coat for many years to be elected in Luo-Nyanza or ODM strongholds in Nairobi like Babu Owino..
There r so many Luo-Nyanza leaders that have been elected since 1997 just because of Raila’s wave…So long as you r in Raila’s party you are elected…Orengo tried to defy this wave in 2002 by vying for Presidency and Ugenya Parliamentary seat on a SDP ticket but he LOST to Archbishop Stephen Ondiek who was vying on a NARC ticket, a party that Raila Amolo Odinga overwhelmingly supported in 2002..
Orengo who is 73 years today is eyeing Siaya gubernatorial race for a second term in 2027 & without Raila on the ballot as a Presidential Candidate it will b hard to sell in Siaya kababa…
On the other hand, I am told Anyang Nyong’o who is 81 years old, is planning to make a comeback to Senate in 2027 after his two terms as Kisumu Governor lapses….For this to happen easily, Raila Odinga MUST be on the ballot as a Presidential Candidate for Orengo and Nyong’o to ride on his wave as usual… Whether he wins or not, it’s not an issue to Orengo & Nyong’o so long as they get their political seats.
