Press Release | NOCZ Safe Sport Commission Addresses Séxual Abuse And Harassment Allegations In Zambia Basketball Federation

“Dear Members of the Olympic Movement in Zambia,

Today, I am honored to introduce to the public the Safe Sport Commission of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ), established in 2021. Our mission is to foster a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for everyone involved in sports across Zambia. The Commission comprises five members appointed by reputable governance institutions and includes a representative from the NOCZ Secretariat.

To promote a safe, positive, and inclusive environment, the Commission has developed a General Code of Conduct for the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) along with specific Codes of Conduct for Coaches and Athletes.

In light of recent serious allegations of sexual abuse and harassment within the Zambia Basketball Federation, we are prioritizing a swift and thorough investigation. The safety, integrity, and well-being of every player, coach, and stakeholder in our sports community is paramount, and we are resolute in upholding these standards. We are committed to uncovering the truth, holding those responsible accountable, and will provide an update at an appropriate time.

We are also aware of additional allegations of sexual abuse and harassment in other
federations that have not yet been formally reported to us. In the past, we have made efforts to address such issues even in the absence of formal complaints.

Our mission is clear: to create an environment where every participant can thrive without fear of harassment or abuse. We are dedicated to taking decisive action that not only addresses these grave allegations but also establishes preventive measures to safeguard the integrity of our sport.
