Ndola’s Grade 12 Pupil Takes Own Life After Her Mom Scolds Her For Returning Home Late

Mwebantu reports that a Grade 12 pupil has committed suicide after her mother scolded her for returning home late.

Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba said the incident occurred in Chifubu Township.

He said the report was made by the victim’s father, who stated that his 18-year-old daughter took her own life by hanging herself with a scarf tied to a roof plank in her bedroom.

“This incident occurred on October 28 at around 09:30 hours. The facts are that the deceased regularly attended overnight tuition sessions. Yesterday, she returned home around 06:30 hours, and her mother scolded her,” Mweemba said.

He added that after being scolded, the girl went into her room and a few minutes later, her mother went to check on her and was shocked to find her daughter hanging from the roofing planks with a scarf.

“She quickly informed her husband, who reported the matter to Chifubu Police Station,” he said.

Mweemba confirmed that officers visited the scene and inspected the body, which had no visible physical injuries.

He said the body was later taken to the Ndola Teaching Hospital mortuary.
