Theft Of Goods On Transit: Trio Nabbed, Stolen Lorry Recovered

Kajiado Central detectives, alongside detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau based at DCI Headquarters, have nabbed three suspects linked to the audacious theft of a Scania lorry, registration number T260T CGS. The lorry, loaded with maize worth Sh1.7 million, was en route to Nairobi’s Industrial Area from Tanzania.

As detailed in a police report filed on March 19, 2025, the theft occurred when the lorry’s driver parked at Maduka ya Juu in Kajiado. Accompanying him was a woman physically known to him, who had joined the journey at the Namanga border. While the driver briefly stepped away to use a nearby restroom, he returned to find the woman holding two soft drinks. After consuming one, he began feeling drowsy and fell asleep inside the vehicle. When he regained consciousness the following day, he found himself lying on the ground, with both the lorry and the woman missing.

Swift investigations led to crucial forensic breakthroughs, culminating in the recovery of the lorry stripped of its cargo and abandoned in Embakasi.

Detectives’ tireless efforts led to the arrest of three suspects: Rachael Nyambura Njuu, 29; Ann Nyambura Maina, 32; and Mark Oluoch Mumasaba, 39.

Investigations further revealed that the stolen maize was offloaded in Kiandutu, Thika, and sold to Swami Z millers based in Makongeni who have since been summoned to SCCIO Kajiado for further interrogation.

The lorry’s driver remains in custody, assisting investigators in their ongoing efforts to uncover the full scope of the crime.

Meanwhile, the three suspects are in custody undergoing processing pending their court appearance.
