Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was the most searched public figure in Kenya in 2025, according to Google’s Year in Search report released Thursday.
Odinga also ranked second among the most searched news topics. His online influence was so strong that many Kenyans looked up the meaning of “enigma,” a term often linked to his political identity. Odinga passed away on October 15 this year.
The report reflects what Kenyans were most curious about throughout 2025, covering politics, sports, culture, food, and global events.
One of the biggest national interests was the Social Health Authority (SHA), with many seeking information on how the new health system works.
Sports continued to capture attention online. The African Nations Championship (CHAN) topped all news searches, highlighting the nation’s passion for football. Middle-distance runner Faith Kipyegon was the most searched sports figure, maintaining her status as one of Kenya’s top athletes. International players also drew interest, including Slovenian striker Benjamin Šeško and Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota, who passed away in 2025.
