Sadly, I discovered a painful story.. The biggest enemy of a poor man is not lack of money, but his way of thinking.

Yesterday I was sitting with my friend, and he was telling me about his failed project, and he said something that made me think a lot: “I did everything right, but I did not have enough money to be rich.”

I was thinking about this, then I understood why most poor projects fail and rich projects continue. The truth is that the matter is much deeper than just having or not having money.

The first problem is that the poor make a project to get them money from the first day. And if this didn’t happen, they were desperate from the first day too. They open the store today and wait for the customers to fill the place tomorrow, and when this doesn’t happen they say “project failed”.

Rich people understand that any project needs time to succeed. They do not rush the result, and they have patience to wait until the project stands on its feet and begins to make a real profit.

The other problem is that the poor man puts all his money into the project, and it’s barely enough. So, if the project needs additional support, development, or even maintenance, this is an early announcement of failure, because there is no extra money.

While the rich put more money into the project than they need, they have double the cost of the project as a backup. That’s why if the project needs development or has a crisis, they can deal with it without closing it down.

The poor are looking for a quick profit and spending a little, and the rich are looking for the project’s success, even if it costs them more patience and expenses in the beginning.

But the truth is that there is no problem if poor projects succeed, but only if they use the mentality of the rich. The problem is that, unfortunately, financial poverty is accompanied by many other types of poverty:

Hamas poverty: Because of the daily stresses make a person focus on survival, not on success.

Passion poverty: Because when you’re worried about a living, it’s hard to feel passion for a long-term dream.

Poverty of patience: Because the urgent need for money makes every day without profit a disappointing day.

Ambitious poverty: because the environment surrounding the poor often teaches him to “be content with what he has” not “dream more”.

Poverty of dreams: because the poor man gets used to dreaming small dreams “so that they do not break” if they do not succeed.

Poverty of self-confidence: Because society always thinks that the poor is poor because they “have no share” or “are not clever”.

Poverty of believing that he will succeed: this is dangerous, because when a person does not believe he can succeed, he will not make enough effort to succeed.

Poverty of a supportive community: Because most of the poor are surrounded by people like them, none of them has the experience of success to help the rest.

Poverty of positive friends: and the friends around them often discourage them instead of encouraging them, telling them “we are not from this” or “the country has no opportunities”.

Poverty of moral support: It’s painful, that most projects fail before the owner even gets out of bed, because he will enter a war with a whole community who cannot believe he will succeed, and the first one is his family.

But despite all these difficulties, there are many people who were poor and managed to break this cycle. How?

First: Change their thinking. They stopped thinking like the poor and started thinking like the rich. Plan long-term, be patient on the outcome, and invest in their venture development.

Secondly: Learn from others mistakes. Learn why projects fail and why they succeed, and learn the skills you need before they start.

Third: Seek a supportive environment. They found friends and acquaintances who believe in their dreams and encourage them, even if they are few.

4th: they started out young and smart. They didn’t start a big project that needs a lot of money, they started with a simple one and they grew it bit by bit.

5: Invest in themselves first. Before investing in any project, invest in learning new skills and building a network of relationships.

Sixth: Distinguish the immediate need for money and a long-term investment. They found other ways to meet their daily needs, and they saw the project grow at its convenience.

In the end, success is not dependent on the rich. I just need a change in the way of thinking, dealing with failure and patience on the results. We also need to understand that building wealth isn’t a speed race, it’s a long-term marathon.
