Revealed: DCI Officer Accidentally Shot 5 During Court Session In Bungoma

Five people are receiving treatment at Bungoma Referral Hospital after a DCI officer accidentally shot them at Bungoma Law Courts. The officer injured a prison officer, two men, a woman, and himself.

County Police Commander Anderson Njagi confirmed the incident, saying investigations are underway. โ€œOne DCI officer who is an investigations officer accidentally discharged one round of ammunition and injure silently one prisoner officer, four civilians and the officer himself was injured,โ€ he said.

Njagi said the security officers will cooperate with the Judiciary on the investigations about the matter, saying the officer was disarmed. โ€œUnajua pia yeye ameumia lakini uchunguzi unaendelea na amepelekwa hospitali,โ€ he stated.

He assured that such an incident will not happen again, assuring the public of their safety.

In a statement, the Judiciary through its Spokesperson Paul Ndemo said all court officials as well as members of the public at the Court are safe and there is therefore no need for alarm. โ€œThe County security team has since visited the Courts and is assessing the situation,โ€ Ndemo said

The DCI said it is collaborating with IPOA and the Judiciary in the investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the discharge of the firearm.

Further, sadi, appropriate measures will be taken in accordance with the Service Standing Orders to ensure accountability and address any potential lapses.
