My boyfriend takes a loan from me to stake a bet. We fight about it. The fight gets bitter and we break up for days. Because of this, I stopped giving him loans. When I stopped, he took it from my purse when he had the chance. One day, he won GHC69,000 and rushed to prove to me that betting wasn’t wrong after all. “You see? If I stopped, how could I have won this?”

We planned how we were going to invest the money and how we were going to get married two years later out of this investment. I told him to stop the betting and rather concentrate on his career. He’s a teacher. He gave me GHC15,000 which I used to buy treasury bills. He also told me he was going to invest the rest. Five months later, we can’t trace the money. He has used all the money for betting and has lost everything.

He came asking me to give him the GHC15,000. That was when I got to know he had wasted all the money. A man like this doesn’t have a vision and no one can build a solid life with a man who can’t be disciplined with money. I told him the relationship was over. He’s begging, asking for another chance. This time, he says he’ll never bet again. Not that I believe him but the fact that he would lose such an amount is a red flag for me.

Should I continue a relationship like this even if it’s true that he has stopped betting? When is he going to make such an amount again in his life? I believe God gave him an opportunity to transform his destiny and he messed it up so nothing good will come again. Am I right if I never give him a second chance?
