He Invited Me On A Date And Asked Me To Pay The Bill
He invited me on a date and asked me to pay. Surprisingly, that was the date he used to propose to me. I said yes only for him to ask me to pay when the bill came. I thought he was even joking. He insisted that he had never had a lady pay for him so I should set a record. The waitress was standing there. She was getting embarrassed so she turned to walk away. I called her back and asked for their momo number. I paid.
When going back home, instead of being thankful, he was teasing me. “Wow, you’re a different breed. Is this your first time paying for a man too?” When I didn’t respond, he asked if I was angry. I told him, “I’m not angry but next time, let’s talk about it before it happens. I was embarrassed. You put me on the spot. What if I didn’t have money to pay?” He said sorry while laughing at me.
Our relationship was a few hours old but I regretted not telling him to give me some time to think about it. He got down along the way. He only gave me a peck and walked away. He didn’t pay the Uber. The whole night was messed up for me. He got me asking myself if I’d made a mistake.
I let it go, hoping it was just a blip. A few weeks later he texted asking for a loan; “Just Ghc200. I’ll pay. Be the first girl to ever give me a loan.”
“What next?” I asked myself. “First girl to buy him a car? Or The first girl to buy him a wedding ring.”
I texted back, “I can’t. I don’t have that much to give away.” He replied, “So, how much do you have? Even if it’s GHC100 I don’t mind. You’ll be the first girlfriend I’ve ever taken a loan from.”
I didn’t give him but I’ve lost interest in the relationship. I said yes only a few weeks ago and this guy already wants me to be the first in everything for him. Isn’t that a red flag? Would it be absurd for me to leave a man because he wants me to be the first woman who did everything for him? Does it sound honest in your ears or it’s just a trick to fleece the little that I have from me?
