What Happened At Kisumu Airport

Kenya Airways Boeing 737-800 Incident in Kisumu. A Kenya Airways flight, Boeing 737-800, operating as KQ731 from Nairobi to Kisumu, encountered a challenge upon landing at Kisumu Airport on the evening of May 30, 2024.

The pilot made several attempts to land the aircraft and finally succeeded on the third attempt. During the landing one of the plane’s engines suffered a bird strike which critically damaged the steering system.

Passengers on board reported a tense atmosphere as the plane hovered above the ground and struggled to touch down safely.

Passengers have been on the plane for over an hour.

Kisumu Airport runway is now closed and flights are being diverted.

Upon the forced landing, the aircraft was stranded at the extreme end of the runway and unable to be towed due to the damage sustained.

“We can’t be towed, we are at the extreme end of the runway. We may be brought a ladder, but not sure how we shall be ferried to the lounge given that I have never seen a bus at this international airport,” one passenger said.

The plane’s flight path shows repeated attempts to land.
